Step Brothers Isn't Funny

Updated: Sep 19, 2020

Turns out you don't like Seinfeld or burgers.

Shocking movie. Source: Rolling Stone.

This week in the Facebook group, 'Large Almond Latte', we asked the question: What are your unpopular opinions?

I don't have a lot of unpopular opinions. I'm a basic bitch, pretty generic. But I do have one.. and it's VERY unpopular: Beyonce is OVERRATED! Kthanksbai, need to take the heat off of me, so here are your unpopular opinions.

Questionable fash choices.

High five, they're here to stay. Source: GIPHY

Fan Mark thinks high-waisted paints are terrible and the only people who like them are the people who own them. Sorry, I like pants that cover my ass crack, Mark. I also like pants that hold in my muffin top and the Santa sack of a belly my baby left where my abs should be. The alternative is crack, muffins and sack all hanging out like an overflowing bath. The early noughties when low rise were 'in' were some of the most challenging years of my life. So yeah, high waisted paints are here to stay.

Dirty Dancing Sucks

I do. Source: GIPHY

Next up: Dirty Dancing is shit. Well fan Jess, I agree, it’s a very boring movie. It’s not a coincidence it spawned a shit reality show and a shit remake. They never had hope, because the OG was so awf to begin with. If I’m going to watch a movie made before I was born about a bad boy and a nice girl from different worlds that come together through dancing, I’m obviously going to watch Grease, probably even Grease 2 before I watch Dirty Dancing. Nobody puts baby in a corner, okay, but I am gonna put you in the bin.

The greatest love story of all time. Source: GiPHY

On movies, Kathryn thinks that The Notebook is awful, well Kathryn I think you need to see a cardiologist about your cold heart, because The Notebook is obviously the second greatest love story ever told right behind another Nicholas Sparks masterpiece, A Walk To Remember. Fan Emma hates the film Step Brothers and honestly I don’t disagree, because how is it even close to realistic that two boomers fall in love and they both have middle-aged sons living at home that both have extreme sleepwalking issues? Surely these boomers actually have to share some genetics to both have spawn so similar. Also, it’s just not funny.

Seinfeld is overrated.

Ooh here’s a controversial one, but 100% accurate - fan Michael thinks Seinfeld is the most overrated show of all time. And 'agreed.' Aside from The Soup Nazi, there’s literally nothing memorable about that show. Friends on the other hand, 'pivot', the spray tan, the leather pants, the fajitas, we were on a break, any storyline with Ross basically are iconic moments in television history (look, if you know, you know).

Eww burgers.

Right? Source: GIPHY

I think some of you also have scratched off your tastebuds while in isolation. Fan Anthony thinks hummus is rubbish. Hummus is the base dip, it’s the foundation upon which all other dips are built. If you don’t like hummus, you don’t like dip, which probably means you don’t like cheese and charcuterie and by 25, that’s your social life gone. Fan Lucy doesn’t like burgers. Not only are they obviously delicious, but they provide many important food groups in one meal – meat = protein, tomato and lettuce = vegetables, cheese = calcium, dairy. It might have 9000kj but it’s the only 9000kj you’ll need for the day. Fan Brittany doesn’t like ice-cream. I assume Brittany doesn’t like fun either. Fans Mia and Laura hate rosé and Aperol, which stabs me in the essence of my being. It’s not even in favour of a fine, aged shiraz like regular drink snobs, they both would just rather a daiquiri like they’re 16 at the local football club on a Saturday night. And my teeth feel so furry for them. I’m so glad at this point that this friendship group is an online community because if we got together in real life, there’d be no charcuterie, no dips, no rose, NO FUN.

So if you’ve got a super unpopular opinion, I really hope that this community opening up encourages you to share yours. It’s not healthy to bottle it up.
